Concerned Citizens For a Better Tunica County (CCBTC) was formed in 1993 to fight to create a quality education for all students in the Tunica County which ranked as the 2nd poorest county in the US in the 1990 census, and whose school system was ranked among the 10 weakest in the State of Mississippi. CCBTC is a grassroots, community leadership, development, education and training organization. The organization works with parents and youth members on local educational issues and state level issues through their work with the catalyst Roundtable, Mississippi Education Working Group and the Dismantling the Schoolhouse to Jailhouse Coalition. Hazen’s $30,000 grant in 2010 will support CCBTC’s youth- and parent-led education organizing work to improve instruction, funding, overcrowding and community engagement in Tunica County Schools.
