This $30,000 renewal grant will enable New Settlement Apartments (NSA) to maintain its local education organizing and continue to play a leadership role in city and statewide organizing. The Parent Action Committee (PAC) is a parent and community organizing project of NSA made up of over 1,000 members strong, the PAC is led by 10-25 parents and a professional staff who guide campaigns in five underperforming schools in Community School District 9. During the coming year the PAC will organize to improve struggling schools and reduce student arrests, summonses and suspensions through the use of restorative practices. In the next two years, PAC will continue to focus on its two core strategies of implementing local and citywide campaigns for educational equity and building parent leadership for educational justice.
