A one-year $30,000 renewal grant will support Nollie Jenkins Family Center’s organizational development and its parent- and youth-led education organizing work to develop a multi-district quality schools model, reform zero tolerance student discipline policies and to increase parent/student engagement in education reform throughout Mississippi. Over the next year, Nollie’s campaign work will focus on adequate school funding; with the Dignity in School Campaign to dismantle student discipline policies; conducting “Know Your Rights” trainings with the ACLU of Mississippi; creating a student handbook with a continuum of supports and services; creating Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) inside schools; and sharing the “healthy” school concept with education stakeholders-students, parents, community members, elected & public officials.
