This $30,000 renewal grant will support the Northwest Bronx Community & Clergy Coalition’s youth-led and intergenerational education organizing work to end the criminalization of students of color and help put a stop to the school-to-prison pipeline, improve high school graduation rates and college readiness and to ensure environmentally healthy learning environments in NYC public schools and timely public access to information regarding environmental health of schools. The Sistas and Brothas United (SBU) Youth Leadership Program of the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, is a ten-year old grassroots, youth-led organization of low-income middle and high schools students in the Northwest Bronx. SBU is also part of four different educational justice coalitions, the Alliance for Educational Justice (nationwide), the Dignity in Schools Campaign (nationwide), Urban Youth Collaborative (citywide) and Communities United for Police Reform (citywide).
