Salem-Keiser Coalition for Equality believes in organizing parents to become stakeholders in education systems and their children’s schools in designing school programming and to also train parents on how to become powerful and effective advocates for education justice and structural systemic change. SKCE believes every child from every background must receive an equitable education, justice, and access to equal opportunities, and academically prepared to graduate from high school with the skills to thrive in healthy, safe and inclusive multicultural communities. They envision communities where parents have shared governing power to build community equity and structural social justice. In 2019, SKCE passed a modified and strongerSafe and Welcoming Schools Resolution, which incorporated rules for preventing the district from providing confidential student and family documentation or information to Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
