Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA)builds power by training the most vulnerable residents of Logan Square to build campaigns directed at winning equitable resource investments and institutional change in the neighborhood. LSNA leaders propose strategies to explicitly resist community displacement: clear programs to support immigrants, plans to protect current homeowners and add new affordable housing, ways to foster local businesses owned by residents, immigrants, and people of color. They assert community control, centering those most affected by displacement and divestment to drive social change for the community. This past year, LSNA youth led the successful effort to stop the development of a concert venue in Hermosa that youth feared would lead to further gentrification and displacement. Their organizing also helped to pass the RISE Act (HB 2691), which provides access to financial aid for undocumented students, trans students, African Americans, and other students disproportionately impacted by limitations on financial aid.
