About Us Section

The Edward W. Hazen Foundation closed in 2024 and no longer makes grants.
The Foundation sought to use its privilege and resources to shift power to our grantees, centering their work in youth organizing for issues of social and racial equity and educational justice. Since its inception in 1925, the Foundation prioritized the education, development, and leadership of young people—“those who in the natural course of events will be the leaders of tomorrow,” as Edward Hazen believed.

AboutUsv5

Responding to the urgency of our time amid crises and calls for change, the Hazen Foundation distributed its final round of grants in 2023-2024. Spending down was not a solution to systemic racism and injustice, but it was a commitment to meeting the demands for racial justice by moving all our assets to our grantees and their communities. We trust in the vision and leadership of a new generation of young people on the frontlines of transformation and liberation.
