Gender & Sexualities Alliance Network (GSAN) is an LGBTQ racial and gender justice organization that empowers and trains queer, trans, and allied youth leaders to advocate, organize, and mobilize an intersectional movement for safer schools and healthier communities. They center the leadership of those at the intersections of systems of oppression to drive educational justice systemic change by developing, resourcing, and connecting grassroots, youth-led high-school-based student groups, empowering them to educate their schools and communities, to advocate for just policies that protect LGBTQ youth from harassment and violence, and to organize in coalition with other youth groups across identity lines to address broader issues of oppression. In 2019, GSAN youth trained teachers and administrators at 3 school districts on implementation standards for the California Healthy Youth Act so that health education is gender-inclusive, queer affirming, and racially conscious. In 2019, the National Trans Youth (TRUTH) Council officially rolled out its Nine Point Platform, a document that centers the social movement’s trans and nonbinary youth leadership as a foundation for liberation and calls into action intersecting forms of resistance.
