Quitman County Development Organization (QCDO) was founded in 1977 by civil rights activists who recognized the need for systemic community change and economic and leadership development. Since 2005, QCDO has been working to build the Parent/Students Partnership to Improve Public Schools as a vehicle for school change. QCDO and its members are deeply concerned about the lack of qualified teachers in their schools as well as the high dropout rate. Quitman County Development Organization has been a core grantee for public education during the last 5 year period. Continued funding of $30,000 in 2010 and 2011 will support their work to organize parents and students in the county.
