Khmer Girls in Action was founded by young Southeast Asian women and girls in Long Beach, CA.  Long Beach has the largest Cambodian population outside of Cambodia. Many families resettled in Long Beach to reconnect with family they were separated from during the Khmer Rouge war and to seek mental, emotional, and financial support services. When the Hazen Foundation last awarded a grant to KGA, they had successfully passed a policy to expand the city’s language accessibility. This past year, they won 2 more full-‐time employees tasked with further implementation of the language policy. After winning a sanctuary policy from the city of Long Beach, KGA was able to organize and secure matching funds from the city for the Long Beach Justice Fund that provides free legal aid to undocumented community members facing deportation.
